Whalefest Monterey to return with live music and educational experiences


The 16th annual Whalefest Monterey will be held on April 11 and April 12. It will feature live music and a walk-through of a Humpback Whale replica called Dee. Dee is a 43-foot replica that showcases the anatomy of a Humpback Whale, including the communication, diet and survival of the animal. The event will be held at the Old Fisherman’s Wharf and Custom House Plaza in Monterey State Historic Park. It celebrates the marine life of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Visitors will be able to see krill and learn about marine debris and stormwater pollution. Marine scientists, researchers and policy experts will also be at the event, educating attendees. Students from Monterey High School will perform at the event Saturday morning, followed by performances from musicians from the community. The event aims to encourage the community to protect and preserve the ocean and its inhabitants. The event is free to attend and relies on donations and sponsorships.
