“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” sees Mario (Chris Pratt), Luigi (Charlie Day), Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom lot back on the big screen for what’s already shaping up to be another blockbuster video game adaptation.
Nintendo and Illumination’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was one of the biggest movies of 2023 — it made over $1.3 billion and was second only to Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie at the box office — and the newly-released sequel’s already gotten off to an impressive start.

When is ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ coming to streaming?
At the time of writing, the only way to watch “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is by heading to your nearest movie theater. The film only hit the big screen on April 1, so it probably won’t be streaming for several weeks.
The first place you’ll be able to watch “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” at home will be via Premium Video-on-Demand (PVOD) storefronts like Prime Video or Apple TV.
Right now, I’d guess that “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” will be available to buy or rent digitally on or around Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
That guess is based on several factors, including the fact that new PVOD releases typically drop on Tuesdays, plus Universal Studios’ recent commitment to a minimum five-weekend theatrical run for its new releases (which will extend to a minimum of seven weekends in 2027).
Five weekends after release would take us up to Monday, May 4, which would be 34 days after the movie first premiered in theaters. And since that’s not too dissimilar from the wait for some of Universal’s recent releases — “Wicked: For Good” took 40 days to come to PVOD, and the live-action “How To Train Your Dragon” took 32 days, for example — it seems like a decent enough prediction, until we hear anything different.
If you’d prefer to wait for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” to come to streaming, the first place it’ll presumably be available is on Peacock, as that’s where Universal’s movies stream first.
Currently, my best guess is that “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” will stream on Peacock in August 2025.
Again, that prediction’s based on the fact that we wait roughly 3 to 4 months for Universal Pictures movies to come to Peacock. Case in point, “Wicked: For Good,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” all arrived on Peacock 120 days after their theatrical release.
If we assume the “Mario” sequel will follow that pattern, 120 days after April 1 brings us to Thursday, July 20, 2026, hence my August 2026 guess.
Of course, it pays to remember that all of this is my own speculation, and nothing official has been shared by Universal just yet. As soon as we get more info or a confirmed streaming date for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” we’ll be sure to update this article, so keep checking back.
