Sinners has been nothing short of a global phenomenon.
Ryan Coogler’s latest work has made $369 million worldwide, passing 2013’s Gravity to become the highest-grossing original film since Christopher Nolan’s Inception back in 2010. No other 2020s movie is even close.
The Academy is just as enthusiastic about Sinners as the audience. Sinners — which stars Michael B. Jordan as twins Smoke and Stack — earned 16 Oscar nominations, making it the most recognized film in the award show’s 98-year history.
In honor of Sinners‘ big moment, let’s take a look at the most Oscar-nominated movies ever:
Films with most Oscar nominations
- Sinners (2025) — 16 nominations
- All About Eve (1950) — 14 nominations
- Titanic (1997) — 14 nominations
- La La Land (2016) — 14 nominations
- Gone with the Wind (1939) — 13 nominations
- From Here to Eternity (1953) — 13 nominations
- Mary Poppins (1964) — 13 nominations
- Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) — 13 nominations
- Forrest Gump (1994) — 13 nominations
- Shakespeare in Love (1998) — 13 nominations
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings (2001) — 13 nominations
- Chicago (2002) — 13 nominations

- The Shape of Water (2017) — 13 nominations
- Emilia Pérez (2024) — 13 nominations
- One Battle After Another (2025) — 13 nominations
Clearly some of these haven’t aged well (I’m looking at you, Emilia Pérez), but overall this is excellent company for Sinners to keep. We’ll see if it can add a Best Picture win on Oscars night.
