Who Is Yoshi Eating in New Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer?


In the latest trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a certain green fan-favorite engages in a highly-entertaining activity.

One of Nintendo’s most popular Mario franchise characters, Yoshi is a little green dinosaur that Mario first encountered, rescued, and befriended in the 1990 Super Nintendo video game, Super Mario World, which hit the U.S. a year later.

A nonverbal character, Yoshi first served as a loyal steed to Mario but he’s since evolved into a hugely popular, playable character across game titles.

In a trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie that was released on Febuary 6, several of Yoshi’s signature game/character powers are brought to life in spectacular slow motion, assuring Nintendo gamers that the character is getting an accurate adaptation in the upcoming film, which is a sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The trailer reveals Yoshi’s super-extendable tongue, his voracious appetite, and his ability to turn what he eats into delightful waste, otherwise known as his signature white egg with green polka dots. And viewers see one unlucky character get gobbled up and shot out.

Who did Yoshi eat and turn into an egg in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer? 

The trailer shows Yoshi flick his tongue out at a hooded, bespectacled character, pulling him in towards his mouth, swallowing him whole, and then blasting him out as egg. The scene is a showdown between Yoshi and Kamek, a Magikoopa who serves as Bowser’s advisor and who uses his magic for evil. Kamek is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

New adventures await in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie when it debuts in theaters nationwide on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Based on places and characters in the Super Mario Galaxy video games, the upcoming movie features modest plumber brothers Mario and Luigi (voiced by Chris Pratt and Charlie Day) and their friends in the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach and Toad (Anya Taylor-Joy and Keegan-Michael Key), as they reunite for a recovery mission.

Bowser (Jack Black), their enemy from the first film, is still bite-sized after being shrunk down in the first movie, so his equally bad-tempered son, Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie), has stepped up to create more chaos. Also look out for Princess Rosalina (Brie Larson), who lives in outer space, in the film.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters on April 1, 2026.
