At the beginning of each month, Valve releases the latest results of its Hardware & Software Survey, which offers an overview of the hardware people use to access the most popular gaming platform. It also shows how popular various operating systems are, which is particularly useful, considering Microsoft’s unwillingness to share official data. Here is how Valve describes it:

Steam conducts a monthly survey to collect data about what kinds of computer hardware and software our customers are using. Participation in the survey is optional, and anonymous. The information gathered is incredibly helpful to us as we make decisions about what kinds of technology investments to make and products to offer.

This month, there are no major changes in the survey. Windows 11 remains the most popular operating system, with 66.65% (-0.06 points) of all reported devices running the infamous operating system from Microsoft. Windows 10 is second with a much more modest 25.36% market share (-2.37 points). Windows 7 is still alive and kicking on Steam—0.08% of all participants still use the 17-year-old operating system.

To no one’s surprise, Windows is installed on 92.33% of all Steam users who participated in the survey (participation is optional). Linux is second with a 5.33% market share, while macOS is third with 2.35%.

The most popular hardware on Steam includes the desktop NVIDIA RTX 3060 graphics card (3.92%), 16GB of RAM (40.97%), a six-core processor (27.77%), 8GB of video memory (27.52%), and a 1080p display.

Despite all the backlash and hate that NVIDIA gets these days, the “green team” remains the dominant choice among gamers, with the GeForce graphics cards holding a massive 72.83% market share (AMD is second with a 18.55%). As for processors, Intel is first with a 54.98%, while AMD is very close with 45.02%.
