Winter Roots Festival brings music, favor and community spirit to La Crosse | News

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The rhythm of Wisconsin is alive at the La Crosse Center this weekend, where local bands and regional flavors came together for a good cause.

The 5th annual Winter Roots Festival filled the Riverside Ballroom on Saturday February 14 with live performances celebrating “Wisconsin favorites” — from classic rock and country to funk and bluegrass.

The event highlights local music, food, craft beer, and spirits, which organizers say give residents a chance to enjoy homegrown talent while supporting the community.

Shelly Fortner, Executive Director of the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse, said the festival’s impact reaches beyond the stage.

“It takes a community for us to do our job,” Fortner said. “As the only free and local food bank, we need to feed the community — and we need support from local businesses, local bands, and local people coming to events like these.”

A portion of every ticket sold benefits the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse as well as La Crosse Special Olympics.
