Wrexham scored five goals in a second tier game for the first time in the club’s history as they completed a 5-3 comeback from 3-1 down against Sheffield United on Boxing Day.
The win was enough to send them to 13th, in what is their fifth season in the English second division (after a four season spell at this level between 1978 and 1982), despite only taking the lead at the StoK Racecourse in the 78th minute.

Sheffield United, who had won five of their previous seven league games coming into the Boxing Day fixture, took the lead in the seventh minute before a Tyler Bindon own goal levelled the score. The centre back had started the game following a good run of form under Chris Wilder but also conceded the penalty that led to Wrexham’s fifth.
Sheffield United went into half time 3-2 up via a Patrick Bamford brace and one from Callum O’Hare, fighting off two equalisers from the Welsh side.

Three second-half goals from Wrexham — including a contentious 81st minute penalty — finally turned the tide to avoid their first home loss since October. Kieffer Moore ended the match with a brace while Ryan Longman and Josh Windass also added to the scoresheet.
Wrexham came into Friday’s game without a win in their previous five games, most recently losing to Welsh neighbours Swansea City on December 19.
They will host Preston in their final game of the year on Monday before their FA Cup third-round match against Nottingham Forest on January 9, the first time they will face Premier League opposition since Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s 2021 takeover.
