CANYON, Texas — West Texas A&M University choirs will travel to Arkansas for a spring tour following an on-campus concert March 1.
The Collegiate Choir, Chamber Singers and Chorale will perform beginning at 2:30 p.m. March 1 in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on WT’s Canyon campus.
Following that, they will travel to Arkansas for three concerts: a private concert at 2 p.m. March 2 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas, a public concert at 7 p.m. March 2 at Cone Chapel at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas; and a public concert at 10:55 a.m. March 3 in the choir room at Harding Academy, also in Searcy.
“The WT choirs are excited to perform for the first time this spring semester,” said Dr. Sean Pullen, professor of music and director of choral activities in the School of Music in WT’s Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities. “The program includes folksongs from around the world, music from some of the great masters, and some samples from Jocelyn Hagen’s ‘The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci’.”
The Collegiate Choir will perform “Wangolo,” arranged by Ruth Morris Gray; “Morning Has Broken” by Eleanor Farjeon, arranged by John Leavitt; “Simple Gifts,” arranged by Jay Althouse; and “Gather by the River to Pray,” arranged by Pepper Choplin.
The Chamber Singers will perform “O quam gloriosum” by Tomás Luis de Victoria; “Frülingsfeier” by Felix Mendelssohn; “Ave verum corpus” by Karl Jenkins; and “You Are So Beautiful” by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher, arranged by Mark Brymer.
The Chorale will perform “Dawn” by Eric William Barnum; three movements from “The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci” by Jocelyn Hagen; “Warum” by Johannes Brahms; “Sure on This Shining Night” by Morton Lauridsen; and “There’s Gonna Be a Homecomin’” by Kyle Peterson.
Fostering an appreciation of the arts is a key component of the University’s long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
That plan is fueled by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign, which reached its initial $125 million goal 18 months after publicly launching in September 2021. The campaign, which is now winding down, has raised more than $175 million.
