Yorgos Lanthimos, the acclaimed Greek filmmaker and photographer, is presenting his first major photography exhibition in Greece at Onassis Stegi in Athens. The exhibition features 182 photographs and runs from March 7 to May 17, 2026.
Widely celebrated for his distinctive cinematic style and surreal exploration of human relationships, Lanthimos has established himself as one of the most influential auteurs in contemporary cinema. The exhibition at Onassis Stegi brings together four bodies of photographic work created over the past five years, offering audiences a rare look into another dimension of his artistic vision.

Known for crafting immersive visual worlds, Lanthimos extends that storytelling language into photography. His images build narratives that push viewers beyond the frame of a still photograph, inviting emotional and intellectual interpretation. The exhibition introduces visitors to a unique photographic language that reflects the filmmaker’s unmistakable creative perspective.
“Yorgos Lanthimos: Photographs” includes three photographic series captured on the margins of film productions in New Orleans and Atlanta, as well as inside the recreated city sets built on soundstages in Budapest. A fourth body of work—being shown publicly for the first time—comes from an ongoing personal project documenting Lanthimos’ solitary walks through the outskirts of Athens and visits to islands across the Aegean Sea.

Through these images, Lanthimos presents a quiet, contemplative perspective on everyday scenes, transforming ordinary environments into abstract and poetic compositions.
Several photographs featured in the exhibition appear in his recent photography books, including Dear God, the Parthenon Is Still Broken (2024)—created during the filming of the movie Poor Things—and I Shall Sing These Songs Beautifully (2024), produced alongside the film Kinds of Kindness.
The exhibition also features previously unseen photographs taken during the production of his latest film, Bugonia.
The exhibition is curated by Michael Mack and commissioned and produced by Onassis Stegi. To mark the opening, Lanthimos will also launch his new photography book **viscin.
