A fan-made version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is letting players sail across Hyrule straight from their web browser.
An unofficial browser version of Zelda: Wind Waker is going viral for capturing the charm of Nintendo’s beloved GameCube classic, from its relaxing sailing to its catchy soundtrack.
The fan-made project lets players take control of Link’s boat and sail between islands in search of sunken treasure, while also creating an addictive game mode that’s all about setting high scores.
Wind Waker comes to PC & mobile (sort of)
The game’s main mode is called ‘Explore the Ocean’ and lets fans freely sail around using their mobile’s touchpad or arrow keys. While you can’t get off the boat and explore the islands, you can sail past iconic locations like Outset Island and the Forsaken Fortress.
Players can jump over obstacles, search for hidden Triforce pieces, and even tweak Link’s appearance using the camera feature.
The second mode, Rupee’s Game, is more arcadey and shifts the focus to chasing high scores by challenging players to collect as many Rupees as possible while avoiding floating barrels. If you get hit three times, you’ll be sent back to the main menu screen.
While you can’t play the full game, being able to get in a cheeky sailing session while you’re at work or smash out some high scores in between coffee breaks is just as fun as it sounds.
This isn’t the only web browser game to go viral this year, either, as one creator made the original Super Monkey Ball playable online, while another turned Wikipedia into a fully functional card-collecting gacha game.
