Around this time of year, many fashionistas face the same struggle – trying to look good and embrace seasonal trends, all while trying to stay warm in the cold weather.
However, one of today’s most trending fashion accessories not only offers a stylish twist to most winter outfits, but also is super functional in the way it keeps you warm. It’s none other than the balaclava, a winter hat and face-mask hybrid, that covers the majority of your head and face, except your eyes. The hats date all the way back to the 1800s, where soldiers would wear them to keep themselves warm during colder nights and battles. While they might be a bit severe in appearance, they’re making a comeback in everyday street wear, coming in all different colors and being made from a variety of materials.

She’s not the only celebrity to sport the bold winter accessory, as stars of all kinds, including Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevigne, and more, have been photographed wearing them to events and on the street.
Many internet users assumed Zendaya might’ve chosen to wear the balaclava during her airport visit to cover up more of her face purposefully, avoiding photographers, which adds another use to their functionality.
