The James Bond franchise is going through some changes before it returns to cinemas with the next iteration of 007. However, in January, 
Netflix subscribers will be able to find the entire Bond franchise on the platform – and yes, that is the whole franchise including the “unofficial” Never Say Never Again, which saw Sean Connery reprising his iconic role years after his time as Bond came to an end with Diamonds Are Forever.
Currently, fans can find the full official collection of James Bond movies streaming for free on Pluto TV after several missing titles joined the platform on December 1, including Connery’s first three movies, Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger, as well as Daniel Craig’s penultimate movie, Spectre. However, the one movie that cannot be found on Pluto TV is 1983’s divisive non-canon movie, Never Say Never Again.
The movie was directed by Irvin Kershner and is based on the same story as Connery’s previous Bond movie, Thunderball. The story that film was based on was co-written by Kevin McClory, who retained the rights to the story after a lengthy legal battle going back 20 years before Never Say Never Again’s release. One of the only Bond movies not produced by Eon Productions – the other being the comedy take on Casino Royale starring Woody Allen – the film was badly received by audiences, but critics enjoyed the rehash of the old story, which, as well as an older Bond, included the incredible Max von Sydow as Blofeld and Kim Basinger as Bond Girl Domino Vitali. Now, in January, Netflix subscribers will have the chance to reassess the film alongside the rest of the greatest action franchise in the ultimate Bond binge-watch. The James Bond Franchise is Just Part of Netflix’s New Line-Up of MGM Content
Licensing is always a tricky thing when it comes to movies, especially in the age of streaming. MGM has only recently started sharing their previously exclusive movies with Netflix again, and several titles turned up on the platform in November, such as Bottoms and Dog, and others have joined in early December, such as The Covenant, House of Gucci and The Hustle. Christmas will also bring Jason Statham’s Wrath of Man, for those who like their Christmas Day to go with a bang.
The addition of the entire James Bond franchise is by far the biggest MGM addition coming to Netflix, with many of the movies hitting the platform for the first time ever. While the movies will only be available for a limited time, there are several other franchises being lined up for a stint on Netflix in the future, such as Rocky, Creed, The Addams Family, and the popular TV series, Fargo.
Of course, Netflix is already the home of another big MGM Television-produced series, Wednesday, which has been one of the most popular shows ever for the streamer, and will be staying there for at least the next decade. Despite MGM being part of the Amazon family, it is clear that there are benefits to sharing content with Netflix, and even though MGM content has been available via other platforms, including MGM+, there is nothing like a spell on Netflix for boosting interest in older content.
