The Las Vegas tourism board has appointed casino executive Steve Schutte to serve as one of its members. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority appointed Schutte, a vice president at Boyd Gaming, to fill the seat vacated by Steve Thompson, who retired as chief administrative officer at Boyd at the end of March.
Schutte is listed as executive vice president of operations at Boyd where he has worked since 2014. Previously, he was senior vice president of operations at Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park in Ohio in 2013 and 2014. He also worked for Station Casinos for eight years from 2005 to 2013. He was also an executive vice president and assistant general manager at Caesars Entertainment.
Schutte started his gaming career with Station Casinos in 1996 as assistant director of food and beverage and was promoted to vice president and assistant general manager in 2000.
Schutte is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in hospitality administration.
The LVCVA also presented the first 2026 Hospitality Heroes recipients Tuesday. The program honors the best in the tourism industry and winners receive a two-night staycation at a Las Vegas resort of their choice.
One winner is Cheryl Black, general manager at Southwest Airlines, who was honored for her dedication to service and fostering a supportive workplace where team members feel valued. In addition, David Pisciotta, maintenance engineer at Bellagio Hotel & Casino, was recognized for his commitment to teamwork and having a service-first mindset. Nominations for next quarter will be accepted through the end of April.
