Philippines-listed and licensed online gaming operator DigiPlus Interactive Corp has now received online gaming licences from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB) in South Africa.
“This paves the way for DigiPlus’ entry into South Africa, the largest online gaming market on [that] continent, which is estimated to have generated US$4.9 billion in gaming revenue in 2025,” the firm said in a filing on Thursday to the Philippine Stock Exchange.
The company confirmed it had received approval from the WCGRB for three licences: a national manufacturer licence; a bookmaker licence; and a bookmaker premises licence.
In late September, DigiPlus announced that it had “formally filed” three online-related licence applications with the WCGRB.
The WCGRB has jurisdiction over the Western Cape province, which has Cape Town as its provincial capital.
DigiPlus said in its latest filing that the province was “the largest online gaming market in South Africa and accounted for approximately 31 percent of national online gaming revenues in 2025.”
It added: “Western Cape is also a top destination for international operators like DigiPlus due to its transparent regulatory processes and digital readiness.”
South Africa is set to be DigiPlus’ second international market, following the company’s entry into Brazil last year.
DigiPlus paused operations of its gaming platform in Brazil in mid-October, less than one month after its launch.
The company said in its latest filing that it aimed “to start full commercial operations” in Brazil “within the first half of 2026”.
DigiPlus is currently in the process of acquiring HKD1.60 billion (US$204.1 million) in convertible notes issued by Hong Kong-listed International Entertainment Corp. The deal will ultimately give DigiPlus control of the New Coast Hotel Manila, in the Philippine capital, which is currently being redeveloped into an integrated resort.
DigiPlus’ fourth-quarter net income declined by 36 percent year-on-year to PHP2.5 billion (US$41.9 million), the firm said in March. Total revenue for the three months to December 31 reached PHP17.3 billion, down 27 percent from the prior-year period.
In the Philippines, DigiPlus operates BingoPlus, described as the country’s first government-approved online bingo platform. It also operates ArenaPlus, a sportsbook, and GameZone, a platform for casual and arcade gaming. Another group unit operates casino slot arcades in the country.
