Equatorial Guinea has officially become the 47th member state of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC). The move provides access to a suite of AFC products, including project preparation, equity investments, debt financing and risk mitigation instruments, thereby strengthening Equatorial Guinea’s ability to mobilize financing and drive infrastructure projects forward.
The country’s ascension to the AFC aligns with a broader long-term vision to advance industrialization, economic diversification and the expansion of world-class transport, logistics and energy infrastructure. A cornerstone of this vision is the country’s Horizon 2035 strategy – a long-term plan that seeks to mobilize investment, enhance value addition and strengthen regional integration.
“Joining the AFC represents an important milestone in our national development journey. As we advance the goals of our Horizon 2035 strategy, Equatorial Guinea is prioritizing investments that diversify our economy, strengthen our infrastructure base and create sustainable opportunities for our people. AFC’s proven track record, deep expertise and commitment to African-led development make it an ideal partner for delivering bankable projects that support long-term growth,” stated Ivan Bacale Ebe Molina, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Equatorial Guinea.
For the AFC, the move strengthens the organization’s ability to mobilize global capital for strategic infrastructure projects in Central Africa. This not only enhances the organization’s presence across the continent, but supports stronger regional integration into global trade networks.
“Equatorial Guinea has set a bold and forward-looking agenda to drive economic diversification, enhance resilience and build world-class infrastructure to support long-term prosperity. AFC stands ready to deploy our unique approach to project development, de-risking and financing to catalyze transformational projects, working closely with the government and key partners in the private sector,” stated Samaila Zubairu, President & CEO, AFC.
