LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Students at Fern Creek High School have a new place to learn and explore careers as first responders.
On Tuesday, April 14, the school opened a brand new fire science garage.
In the new program, students will be taught about fire training and medical skills. The students will also have opportunities to learn hands-on.
“Knowing that more kids will be coming into this program and they’re going to have so much more opportunities in this building,” Fern Creek High School senior Reeves Shuffleberger said. “There’s a lot more PT equipment that we can use for ourselves. We can come here as much as we can, or as often as we want. All the paper, the paperwork was the readiness of us coming in here, so we will know everything before we even step into any PT situation, just for you having the knowledge before doing so and having hands-on things.”
Some graduates, who are currently working as firefighters in our community, were also there to see the new training area.
