Greece To Face Australia in World Cup Quarter-Finals

The Greek men’s national water polo team secured qualification for the final phase of the World Cup, which will take place in Sydney in July, and will face Australia in the quarter-finals.

Greece prepared to meet the host nation in the opening match of the final phase, scheduled from 20 to 26 July. The draw followed the completion of Division 1 and Division 2, which determined the quarter-final pairings.

The Greek team finished third in Division 1 and consequently matched up against Australia, in accordance with the competition framework announced by World Aquatics. The governing body had specified that the third-placed team in Division 1 would face the host nation.

The quarter-final matchups were formed as follows: Spain versus Georgia, Hungary versus Croatia, Italy versus Montenegro, and Greece versus Australia.

The semi-finals will see the winners of Spain–Georgia face Hungary–Croatia, while the winners of Italy–Montenegro will meet the victor of Greece–Australia.

If Greece defeats Australia, as widely expected, it will face the winner of the Italy–Montenegro clash in the semi-finals.
