As revealed at CinemaCon 2026, the next Jumanji movie is called Jumanji: Open World. Like previous Jumanji movies, this wacky action-adventure should come with a fresh batch of video game monsters, silly jokes, and jungles to explore, though based on pictures from the set, the story will also take us to an urban, real-world setting this time. Welcome to the concrete jungle!
While Jumanji: Open World is the third installment in the Jumanji series directed by Jake Kasdan, following Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle from 2017 and Jumanji: The Next Level from 2019, it’s the fifth Jumanji movie ever made. The original Jumanji, a cult classic starring Robin Williams, was released in 1995. The latest film will include a tribute to Williams, and it will also feature one-half of the iconic dice from the original movie.
Like its predecessors, Jumanji: Open World follows a group of teenagers trapped in the Jumanji video game (an evolution of the board game from the original movie). To escape, they must traverse jungles and deserts full of deadly monsters. Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will reprise the lead roles in Jumanji: Open World, alongside other cast members from the previous two Jumanji movies. Burn Gorman and Brittany O’Grady will join the cast in two new roles, alongside Danny DeVito, who plays the grandfather of Spencer Gilpin (Alex Wolff).
According to the still-unreleased trailer shown to audiences at CinemaCon, the chaos brought by the Jumanji games has crossed over to the real world, with natural disasters — including ostriches running wild — hitting towns. The four main actors will play different versions of their “avatar characters,” adding a further layer of chaos to the adventure. If that weren’t enough, Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone now speaks with a Spanish accent.
Jumanji: Open World releases on December 25, 2026. It was previously scheduled for December 11, but was pushed back to Christmas Day, likely to avoid collision with blockbusters like Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three.
