TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – A free boot camp to teach families financial literacy is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tyler ISD Career and Technology Center, 3013 Earl Campbell Parkway in Tyler.
Organizers said sessions will cover wills, trusts, transfer-on-death deeds, heirs’ property, Social Security and disability benefits, and the Community Reinvestment Act.
“We see every day the deficit in the community,” said De’Lores Arline, president of the East Texas Diverse Realtors, “so we thought we’d come together and address it.”
Bankers, title companies, financial planners, attorneys and other professionals will lead workshops, while separate sessions will serve middle school, high school and college students.
Christina Jenkins, a real estate attorney and COO of Keeping It in the Family, said the goal is to teach families to plan ahead to avoid costly fees, fines or legal disputes.
