New details have emerged from the tragic death of a 19-year-old woman of Albanian origin on the island of Kefalonia, an event that has shocked public opinion in Greece. The young woman, identified by Greek media as Myrto, was found unconscious in the early hours of the morning in the center of Argostoli and, although she was rushed to hospital, she did not survive.
From the investigative data it results that the fatal evening had started in a hotel room, where the girl had gone around midnight in the company of a 23-year-old man. Later, two other young men, a 26-year-old and a 22-year-old Albanian, joined the environment. It is suspected that narcotics were consumed during the night, even on more than one occasion, which may have directly affected her health condition.
According to testimonies and footage from security cameras, at a critical moment the girl lost consciousness. Instead of seeking medical help, the three young men took her out of the hotel and took her to the city center. One of them is seen holding her in his arms, while the other two accompany her. They left her in a critical condition near a square and then left.
Investigations show that the 19-year-old woman remained on the street for a considerable time without receiving help, a factor that is suspected to have been decisive for the loss of her life. The ambulance was called late and, when it arrived, the young woman was in critical condition. Despite the efforts of doctors for about an hour, it was not possible to bring her back to life.
The preliminary examination indicates cardiac arrest as the cause of death, while toxicological analyses are expected to determine whether and what substances were used. Meanwhile, another element that aggravates the young people’s position is the fact that, after leaving her on the street, they returned to the hotel and allegedly cleaned the room, as well as took the victim’s phone to eliminate any trace.
Police have identified the three people through surveillance footage and they are now facing charges of manslaughter. They are expected to appear in court to be questioned about the circumstances of the incident.
The girl’s family is in a difficult emotional state and is demanding justice. The parents insist that she had nothing to do with drugs and suspect that she may have been influenced or deceived by the people who accompanied her that night. Her body has been sent for an autopsy in Patras, which is expected to provide clearer answers on the exact causes of death.
