After a Chinese launch, the Vivo X300 Ultra is now officially available in global markets with a slew of videography-focused functions baked in.
While North American users are often limited to the “big three” smartphone brands, Vivo has spent the last few years building some of the most impressive camera hardware in the world. This is being positioned as arguably the professional video powerhouse on Android.
It is a device designed to bridge the gap between your smartphone and a dedicated mirrorless camera, complete with a massive sensor array and modular lens extenders.
Let’s get the core specifications out of the way before we delve into the camera hardware. Under the hood, the Vivo X300 Ultra is utilizing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, 16GB RAM, and either 512GB or 1TB of onboard storage. There’s a 6,000mAh “BlueVolt” battery with 100W wired charging and 40W fast wireless charging, while the 6.82-inch QHD+ LTPO OLED is the perfect place to enjoy the various videos and photos you’ll take with this IP69-rated behemoth.
Core specifications aside, the headline feature is undoubtedly the ZEISS Master Lenses Collection. Unlike most flagships that prioritize one “main” sensor and treat the others as afterthoughts, vivo has equipped the X300 Ultra with three high-performance prime lenses. The 35 mm Documentary Camera uses the 200 MP Sony LYTIA 901 sensor, which is a massive 1/1.12” sensor, and delivers a natural field of view similar to what the human eye sees, according to Vivo.
The 85 mm Periscope Telephoto lens features a 200 MP sensor and gimbal-grade stabilization to keep zoomed-in shots steady at a f/2.67 aperture. To round out the trio, the 14 mm Ultra-Wide lens features a 50 MP LYTIA 818 sensor with a 116-degree field of view to eliminate the distortion and soft edges typically found on secondary cameras. For those who need even more reach, vivo is introducing two physical Telephoto Extenders, including a high-end Gen 2 Ultra model that pushes the focal length to a 400 mm equivalent.
All of this is to say this is a very stacked camera system. One of the biggest and most comprehensive of the year. The Vivo X300 Ultra has a whole slew of videography functions to take advantage of the setup, including 4K 120fps recording across all of the rear camera sensors. 10-bit LOG video and Dolby Vision support on top of that, too, with real-time LUT support for anyone who is willing to ditch their mirrorless camera in favor of this Android device.
It really is a potential pocket-friendly mini-movie-making beast – and we are excited to get to grips with it very soon.
The phone runs OriginOS 6 (based on Android 16), which Vivo claims will receive five years of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates on top. Overall, it looks to be a very comprehensive package at a time when Android phones are offering less than ever at the top end of the market.
While the device is launching in China first, this marks the first time Vivo’s “Ultra” tier will see a wide international release, though it is currently not expected to hit US shores. Annoyingly, Vivo has the device listed at for pre-order at vivo.com, but no pricing at this stage. Regional availability is set to include Asia, Europe, and several other countries, including Brazil. Sadly, no word on the UK launch just yet.
