Community leaders to teach free personal finance course in Glasgow

GLASGOW, Ky. (WBKO) — Several community leaders will be teaching a personal finance course offered through Western Kentucky University in Glasgow.

The class will meet every Tuesday evening from Feb. 10 through April 14, 2026, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Barren County Innovation Zone, 491 Trojan Trail.

Scott Kerley, who helped organize the course, said participants will learn about budgeting, taxes, insurance, loans, fraud, stocks, bonds, and last wills and testaments.

“We want class participants to gain understanding, familiarity, and confidence in making financial decisions,” Kerley said. “Understanding these concepts can reduce stress, align goals, and help relationships flourish.”

The instructors include:

  • Scott Kerley – Kerley Construction Co. Inc.
  • Matt London – Barren County Farm Bureau
  • Drew Thompson – Lockshield Accounting
  • Karisa Peterson – German American Bank
  • Danny Scott – German Bank
  • Zac Ross – Edward Jones
  • Brian Pack – Pack Law Firm

All instructors are volunteering their time, and some are also sponsoring meals for their teaching nights.

“We believe our community improves when we join together to get things done,” Kerley said. “People who volunteer in the community will often see these instructors actively contributing in many ways.”

A certificate of completion will be awarded to people who attend the first seven courses.

The cost is $25 per student. Registration closes Feb. 10, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. Click here to register.
