Zendaya doesn’t usually miss when it comes to the perfect red carpet look. But when she attended CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 14, 2026, she stepped out in a skirt suit that got absolutely roasted by the internet. Featuring a tan base and heavily textured finish, the monochrome outfit (pulled from Schiaparelli’s Fall/Winter 2026/27 collection) was seemingly intended to look like sand, a key part of the “Dune” franchise’s landscape. But while Zendaya deserves points for staying on theme for her recent film, the outfit was undeniably a miss.
People on X were quick to voice their dislike for the look. “I get the inspiration, but I think this is the one [Zendaya] carpet look I don’t really dig. She looks beautiful! But the material looks like skin,” one fan tweeted. “She is such a beautiful girl and she always slays but not this one unfortunately,” another wrote of the sand suit. Even with the tonal Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps and hoops from Bondeye Jewelry to match, people didn’t know what to make of the ensemble. “Is Zendaya wearing someone’s skin?” a third asked.Without a doubt, it earns a place on the list of the rare times Zendaya should have been on the worst-dressed list.
Some of Zendaya’s Dune looks have fallen flat
Zendaya clearly loves dressing up for the part, but some of her “Dune” press tour looks have been so far out there that they’ve flopped. In addition to the sand skirt suit fail, she suffered a fashion flub back in February 2024 when she attended the premiere for “Dune: Part Two” at Leicester Square in London, England. For the event, she wore a silver space suit from Thierry Mugler’s vintage 1995 collection. Law Roach, Zendaya’s long-time stylist, put together both the sand skirt suit and the C-3PO style look. On Reddit, people were thrown by the look because of how uncomfortable it seemed. “I can feel the morning-after neck pain in this photo,” one person wrote. “I’m divided. Her posture makes me feel like she’s deeply uncomfortable. Instead of looking high fashion, it looks comical to me,” another added. “She looks like she’s cosplaying Dot Matrix from Spaceballs. Not a fan of this look, and that is almost entirely because she doesn’t look confident,” a third chimed in. So Zendaya’s silver suit was about as unpopular as her sand look.
To be fair, Zendaya and Roach, who have worked together for many of her other red carpet outfits, usually knock it out of the park. Zendaya’s typically so good at nailing trends while staying true to her edgy style, and the long arc of Zendaya’s style transformation is jaw-dropping. A few misses along the way is understandable.
